Ряд положений Олимпийской хартии направлен на то, чтобы не допустить со стороны конкурентов официальных маркетинговых партнеров теневого маркетинга посредством использования спортсменов-олимпийцев для продвижения своих товаров и услуг. По условиям Соглашения о выступлении спортсменов, конкурентам на Олимпийских играх запрещается осуществлять любые рекламные появления спортсменов без отказа от прав.

Olympic Charter is designed to prevent competitors from ambushing official Marketing Partners by using Olympians to promote their products and services. Under the terms of the Athlete Entry Agreement, competitors in the Olympic Games are prohibited from making any commercial appearance without a waiver.
